One option of fixing a transmission issue is to have it “repaired.” The problem with this option is that there are hundreds of individual parts in a transmission and having one damaged may have damaged many others around it. This makes it less efficient to repair specific internal parts of the transmission.

If this is actually possible, repairing a transmission allows you to basically replace the minimum amount of parts so that the transmission is brought back to good working condition. This typically costs less, so it is smart to get the right diagnosis of your transmission the first time around.

The next option is to have your transmission “replaced.” This means that you will completely replace the entire transmission with a new or used transmission and this can be very costly. There are some downfalls to choosing this option.

One positive thing about replacing your transmission with manufacturer parts is that it is redone in a factory setting. This allows mechanics that are especially proficient in working on that manufacturer’s transmissions to ensure the best possible replacement work to be done for your vehicle.

A transmission rebuild is a great option in most cases. This means you are only replacing the parts that have failed but not doing it in a factory setting.
